LOL@ROLEPLAYS (this post has WORDS)

Haha, I dunno.  RPs have been on my mind a bit lately, probably because there's nothing much on TV any more.  I need entertainment!

I think, though, I've worked out the formula for good roleplays now.  (For me, personally, anyway.)  It comes down to three things:

- A good partner
- OOC communication
- Humour

Lord knows I spent a lot of time looking ( Read more... )

*Nods* I agree with all of that.

Though it's mostly just you, Seda and Moonstar I RP with frequently it is more enjoyable when you don't plan out exactly what's going to happen. And even if you do have any plans it's a good idea to leave them open because the other person may have a direction to contribute that you hadn't even considered yourself.

And as for the crack vs angst side to RPing I agree a moderation is good, though I tend to have a preference towards humour. Entirely angst gets me down too much. ^^; This is why more people need to follow the example of the writers of GetBackers, they had loads of really dark, deep plots, but after about five/ten episodes they'd give the viewers some humour to relax their brains from following the complicated stuff. Good, good idea.

Also, I've very glad of the Bastian/Jaden canon in our RPs. It's like one pivotal face amongst all the other insanity. Plus I'll be sure it just works. Admittedly I'm finding it more difficult to consider Jaden in a serious relationship with another character ( ... )

Predictability is overrated; you don't want to know exactly where the RP is going, or what's the point in doing it at all? And nobody plays a character quite the same as anyone else, so it's easy to be surprised.

Humour is always my favourite thing. Setting out to try and base something entirely on angst is not my idea of fun. I'll keep an eye out for that series, it sounds good (and less parasitic than the more popular ones).

I don't mean to brainwash you into accepting Bastian/Jaden as the ultimate pairing or anything XD They just got landed with the job of being more or less stable while everyone else is contributing, as you said, to the insanity. People like Atticus are hard to pin down XD

You might as well just write out a story in that case. *Nods* Even when two people have the character acting in-character they can end up completely different from each other.

At some point these people will realise that the outlet for their teenangst is not to try and make fiction as depressing as popular, then their skills will improve. Humour's a good basis because, as you said, it can be emotional at times. And because it's emotional side tends to be softer and not rammed down you're throat it's easier to relate to and sympathise with. It's one of those series that I don't understand why it's not popular because it's well written. Though if you do look into it go for the anime and avoid the manga at all cost.

You managed it though. XD I really don't see Atticus settling down into a relationship, the academy and uni are the wrong times for relationship. He's out to have fun. :D

And you would know; I've seen the way Moonstar plays Bastian and he's a fair bit different to my version XD

A lot of them will stop writing at all, thank god. You just tend to get impatient if all the characters do is complain about their lot in life; you're much more inclined to sympathise if they've been entertaining but then something bad has happened to them. Why not read the manga?

He's enjoying his youth XD When he's calmed down a bit good ol' Zane will still be there, patient as ever.
