I think people take life way too seriously. If you're going to be friends with someone, be friends with them and let that be that.
Katie, don't go through the trouble of classifying friendships. It's more work than it's worth, and just creates problems. Just try and be on good terms with everyone, and if they don't want to be, then you can just not hang out with them.
Friendship isn't some complicated, deep, complex matter involving true understanding between two people. What makes it so beautiful is that it is so simple. Not everyone who is friends with someone else has to understand them perfectly. People are individuals, and friends are other individuals who enjoy their company. That doesn't require anything complicated or deep, nor does it require a total and complete empathy.
Friends can argue and disagree, even consistently. But friends still consider themselves friends after the fact.
I agree with Henry. I sometimes find myself caught up in those complications, but it only gets better when I step back and realize that friends are simply friends.
And remember, it's not just the weird kids who drink, it's the popular kids too.
