Hey, I inspired a blog entry! Those are lovely happy memories. I've only been up to Scotland once (since we left a couple of years after I was born) and it is beautiful. I must explore more some day. Actually, I have a general soft spot for the countryside in the northern parts of this here land. There's a wildness about it all, and there's nothing really comparable in the south. (The south does have beautiful areas, but there's something so appealing about the kind of landscape you see in Yorkshire and above.)

Also, good folky pub music is awesome. I do love good folk music. Glad you like Cara Dillon, too. She has such a beautiful voice. If you ever get a chance to see her live, you really must go!

I am such a country boy! I don't feel comfortable in cities. I like visiting them, I just don't like living in them.

I've never been able to get excited about the countryside in southern England. I like mountains and - as you mentioned - the Wildness of the North.

Thats not to say the South isn't beautiful, I just feel I've been spoiled by the scenery I grew up around.

Yeah, southern England has some beautiful areas - I'm particularly fond of Cornwall - but few places in Britain have the hold on me that the northern scenery can. You're very lucky to live so close to all that!

By the way, Strudel and I tossed out the idea of an Edinburgh Festival meet one year! Awesome, no?
