Update ahoy.

Karma. Didn't think it'd ever work.

The weather had been blistering on Sunday, and so while Stacey and Isabella were out enjoying the AC of West Edmonton Mall, I was chilling with an Ice Cap from Tim Hortons. I had the AC up in my own house up enough to keep me cool without taking away my appetite for the Ice Cap.

I was dozing off when I heard the doorbell. Slowly I rubbed my ears wondering if I was hearing things. No one ever really comes to visit me. So I stood up slowly and stumbled a bit, as I had been confined to my couch ala laziness for a few hours. Groaning, I ran a hand through my hair, putting my ice cap down on the coffee table before shuffling to the door.

And I opened it to reveal Joe. I stared at him for a few moments before asking dumbly, "Joe?"

He grinned and opened his arms. "That's me! Where's my hug?"

"Heh." I gave him a hug and stepped back to let him in. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to surprise you, silly," Joe replied, poking me in the forehead. He stepped in, and I closed the door behind him. "And to tell you something important."

"Okay... well let's sit down and you can break it to me gently," I joked, winking at him. There was a strange twinkle in his eyes that I couldn't quite place. He took my hand, which startled me, and we walked to the couch. "What's up?"

Joe smiled at me and squeezed my hand. "I let Peter go."

I blinked. Twice, and stared at him for a while, not believing my ears. Was this some kind of dream? Must have been. "Y-You ... wha?"

"I let Peter go last week. I met up with him and just .. told him I had to move on." He smiled and kissed my hand. "It's over now."

My mouth opened and closed several times before I could say something coherent. "You ... J-Joe, that's wonderful!"

Joe gave me a tight hug and kissed my cheek. "Yes, it is. Thank you, Ryan."

"For what?"

"Everything... I ... you showed me what it was ... what this feeling should be like .. and you've done so much for me already .. you took away that Joe Sakic I don't ever want to be again and ..." he sniffed, tears forming in his eyes.

"Eh - hey hey ..." I soothed, kissing his tears away. "I did it all because I wanted to. And you deserve someone who will do all that without question .. I'll take care of you, Joe. I promise."

Barely audible, as he burrowed his face into the crook of my neck, "Thank you..." I smiled, and stroked his hair, as we quietly sat.
