Double drabble

"Do you have to be pacing for this?"

Casey paused midstep, considering. "Yes," he said simply, resuming his path in front of Dan's couch: door to kitchen and back again.

"Okay," Dan sighed. "Let's start over again. Dana?"

"Has been one of my best friends forever. Smart and funny. She's seen me fuck up countless times and she still likes me."

"But?"

"What if we're better as just friends? The whole sexual tension/unrequited crush thing works for us. I don't want to mess everything up there. Plus, she scares me a little."

"And Sally?"

"Sexy. She's like an amazon or something. Dana's all knobby knees and pointy elbows, but Sally's got curves in all the right places."

"But?" Dan promted again.

"Scary in a completely different way from Dana. She's motivated and everything, but I don't think there's anything there beyond wanting a bigger job. And I don't think I actually like her."

"You know," Dan said slowly, "it's not like those are your only two choices."

Casey stopped in front of Dan, brow furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"I'm just saying there may be a third option here." Dan looked up at Casey and smiled tentatively.
