PERSONALITY: Yui is definitely a clumsy girl in every sense of the word. Even walking is a chore for her, as she'll most likely bump into someone in the street or drop something on the floor. Not only this, but she appears to have ADHD of some sort as she cannot concentrate properly at all when she is hyped up or excited. As demonstrated when she arranged to meet the rest of the Light Music club members to go shopping for a guitar - whilst crossing the road she got distracted by a cat, a man, clothes and shops along the street and eventually forgot that she went out to buy a guitar in the first place. She's constantly away with the faeries and can't concentrate on things very well. She often dazes off into a world of her own when people talk to her. However, it's all sweet innocence, really. She's also extremely laid back, as she loves nothing more than sleeping in on a morning and according to her, lazing around in bed all day is great if you have no plans. She does lack self confidence in the beginning of the series but proves herself to be stronger when she takes up guitar and joins the Light Music club.
Even though she may look somewhat dumb from her naïve traits, she can actually prove herself extremely talented if she puts her heart into something. For example, Yui was required to take a test but instead of studying, she spent every night playing her guitar and memorising chords. While the good news was that she learnt a good majority of things to play on guitar, she failed the test. The dilemma grew when Yui and her friends realised that Yui needed to pass a test in order to keep their club together, as teachers would suspend pupils who fail their re-tests from attending clubs in school. With help from her friend Mio, she studied extremely hard for the entire night. But because of her awful concentration skills, Yui couldn't pay attention for such a long time and fell asleep at one point. Luckily, their friend Mugi was able to bribe Yui with cake as long as she finished her studying, which she did. It paid off in the end, as Yui aced the test, achieving 100/100. But because she studied so hard, she forgot all the guitar chords that she learnt. Typical Yui.
She is also a very, very playful and affectionate girl. Mostly towards her sister, Ui. Ui is the mature one of the two despite being the youngest and always looks after her clumsy older sister. Yui is always found cuddling her sister, once she offered to share her scarf with her on a cold day when Ui had left hers at home. Ui agreed, and the two held hands so that both of their hands would stay warm as well. When the light music club acquires a new member, Azusa Nakano, straight away Yui takes a liking to her and hugs her. She dubs her with the nickname "Azu-nyan" because Yui loved the sight of Azusa wearing cat ears. She does treat Azusa with cat-like traits, such as petting her when she's with her. Azusa and Ui both picked up on Yui's affection, and Azusa admitted that she thought Yui was a bit too clingy, but still "soft and warm" as she said. She displays various other forms of affection to the other band members too, such as holding Mio's hands when she was feeling sad. Not to mention how stupidly affectionate Ritsu and Yui can be when they are together, such as when they were chopping up onions together and both crying dramatically attempting to act out a romantic movie scene.
The main things that motivate Yui are her friends and Tsumugi's delicious snacks. She absolutely cannot resist a slice of cake or a biscuit or two. It's almost as if she lives on snacks and junk food. However, Yui admits that no matter how much she eats, she does not gain any weight. Also, to add to her sweetness, she affectionately calls her guitar "Giita".
