Today, we have
a comparison and a poll!
So, right, who doesn't love Meatloaf? DON'T TELL ME IF YOU DON'T. He's a major player in my Shame & Humilation playlist (as mentioned earlier). I don't mean "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" which every single person between the ages of 8 and 80 knows and can sing along with. I mean some of his cringeworthy classics, which brings us to today's comparison: Videos of Meatloaf's classic, "I Will Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)"!

The original video, which seems to be inspired both by "Beauty and the Beast" and "Phantom of the Opera". Mr. Loaf plays the Beast/Phantom character who is being sought by the police for some unnamed crime (it could be a crime against hygiene: check out the length of his nails). Seriously, it must be bad, because they're chasing him with cars and motorcycles and a helicopter, but he gives them the slip at...his crypt. The rest of the video he spends stalking the scantily and lacily-clad Beauty around her place, while the police kind of search for him. Meat continues to declare that he won't do "that" while Beauty writhes around in a bed and in a tub and pretty much everywhere anyone could writhe, plus seems to have some kind of Bram Stoker's Dracula-inspired orgy. At the end of the video, they finally come face-to-face and Beauty suggests the Meatloaf will start screwing around (what? He's a BEAST), but again, Meat tells her he won't do that. Finally, in Beauty's embrace, he goes from The Beast back to ... Meatloaf, (which, come on, is something of a come down and shouldn't they have got Brad Pitt to play the after?) and as the police close in on them, they disappear with the power of love, and end up speeding away on Meatloaf's motorcycle. Beauty is wearing the most inappropriate for motorcycle travel dress since Molly Ringwald traveled cross-country in The Stand in a flowered miniskirt. THE END.

A fanvid. For The Thorn Birds. Yes, set to Meatloaf. Very period appropriate (because you know Father Ralph de Bricassart prayed to "the god of sex and drums and rock and roll"). Long-time readers of this journal know of my unholy love for The Thorn Birds, terrible accents, rubber back and all, but man, nothing underscores "creepy priest" like seeing Father Ralph gazing at wee!Meggie while this song plays.

Another fanvid, this time for Lord of the Rings. Okay, while The Thorn Birds one was kind of creepy, this one is just a hot mess. Who's doing anything for love here? I couldn't tell you. I had high hopes this was going to be some kind of Orc love story, just from the opening scenes, but then it just kind of turns into "my favorite bits from the movie set to my favorite song". I suppose you could see it as "Frodo and Gollum would do anything for the love of the ring" or something like that, but... nah, doesn't work.

NOT a fanvid. John and Shelly perform Meatloaf's "Anything For Love" or so YouTube tells me. I think they're performing it at church in Manchester, NH, but does Meatloaf belong in church? Who knows. Anyway, I love this. I think Meatloaf should adopt this as the official video for the song. (link courtesy of

Oh, like I wouldn't include this SPN fanvid in here. COME ON, PEOPLE. I cannot watch this without laughing hysterically, but seriously. You know Sam and Dean would run right into hell and back for each other. YOU KNOW IT.

Okay, have you watched them all? Then it's time to vote!
