Domestication: Crosswords (588 words)
Domestication Series Timeline

Sprawled out across the living room floor, Kuwabara tapped his pencil on the newspaper in front of him and frowned at the little blank box that didn't make sense. The clue was "animal never without a pocket", and the second and fifth letters were 'a', so that had to be 'kangaroo' - only there was a blank box at the end. He checked again to make sure he'd spelled it correctly - he had - and then let out a sigh. Yuusuke, leaning against the front of the couch with his legs thrown comfortably over Kuwabara's ass, feet dangling just above the carpet, glanced over at the back of Kuwabara's head.

"Stuck?" he asked, before turning his gaze back to the game he was playing. Somehow he'd managed to lose the game in the few seconds he hadn't been paying attention. Toying with the idea of putting in a different game (they had bought a shoebox full of 'older' games for literally pocket change at a garage sale), Yuusuke decided he was really too comfortable to get up, so he just chose 'Continue'.

Kuwabara turned his head a bit to try to look at the other man, but that was uncomfortable so he rolled onto his side, lifting Yuusuke's feet up higher where they rested on his hip. "Well, the clue's 'animal never without a pocket', and it's not 'kangaroo' 'cause that's one letter short."

"Just put an 's' at the end, then."

"Th-that's not gonna work!" Kuwabara grinned, then shifted his arm to prop his head up.

"Maybe it's that little kangaroo thing, then. From that stupid cartoon."

"What, a- a wallaby? That's even shorter, Yuusuke!" This time Kuwabara laughed, shaking his head.

"Well… put an 's' at the end." Yuusuke tried his best 'innocent' smile, but Kuwabara wasn't fooled - laughing, but not fooled.

"Y'don't pluralize 'wallaby' by adding an 's', dumbass." The redhead's tone was fond, despite the name-calling, but he froze as he mentally pluralized 'wallaby' and made a realization. "O-oh, hey, 'wallabies' actually fits." Kuwabara penciled it in, then continued before the youkai could gloat. "'Course, it only does when you spell it right."

Pouting in mock-sadness (which only made the redhead laugh), Yuusuke tried to keep a straight face but after a moment he lost it to a grin. Moving his feet to tip Kuwabara back onto his stomach, they returned to their respective activities. It was silent, besides the sounds of Yuusuke's video game, Kuwabara's pencil, and their quiet life sounds, until Kuwabara rolled back onto his side and spoke.

"Hey, d'you know a word describing 'a person unwilling to change their point of view'? Eight letters."

"Uh," Yuusuke replied, taking a moment to think and count letters. "How 'bout 'retarded'?" He grinned unrepentantly when Kuwabara rolled his eyes.

"You're no help, ya bastard." Kuwabara was laughing even as he shook his head, which only served to encourage Yuusuke. The youkai really liked to see the redhead when he was smiling or laughing - smiling and laughing was even better.

"Hmm, bastard's only got seven letters - but 'fucktard' might work."

Smiling and laughing like Yuusuke'd been trying for, Kuwabara shook his head and returned to his puzzle, though he still snickered softly. Looking back at the string of blank boxes, Kuwabara thought for another long moment, then broke the silence again. "Maybe it's 'stubborn'," he muttered, penciling it in lightly and moving on to the next question.

It turned out, Kuwabara discovered after a frustrating hour armed with a dictionary and o-blank-d-blank-u-blank-blank-t-e, the word was "obdurate".
