It felt like a necessary thing. And wasn’t at all premeditated in the first instance; it came upon me suddenly. I hung up on him.

When traveling on airplane, they always instruct you to put your own oxygen mask on BEFORE you attempt to help others with theirs.

You just need some air. This gent seems to take it all for himself.

Take of you, dear one, and take care of your beloved.

Hes 21. Time he grew up.
Perhaps the whole deal is that no-one ever did this before.

So, without knowing a thing about it ... ( :) ) ... "Yay About time. Move on."
Grandparents get to give the kids back when they get too much.
You will know if it has done some good if he comes to you bearing gifts and apologies and offers of help.

Focus on what you need to do for the while. Life requires rather a lot of you at the moment.

Yes it does; main reason I am not on LJ so much any more.

Thanks for your good sense (on this and many matters).

As weekend supervisor at a dual diagnosis rehab facility I worked closely with several psychiatric nurses and we often talked about how codependency seemed to be such an important part of a caretakers' psyche. They always reminded themselves that giving too much is just as bad as not giving enough. And the nurses knew they sometimes had trouble drawing boundaries, because when they did finally put some needy patient back at arm's length, they felt GUILTY.

Sometimes striking a healthy balance is hard to do!

But I believe in your instance you did nothing wrong.
