Changes to LJ

Apr 07, 2017 19:46

What do you reckon, folks? Are you all packing up and going now, or staying on regardless?

As I am so inactive here these days, it seems like the push I need to discontinue entirely. But then I think of people whose journals I like (on the rare occasions I come and read them, that is!).

Are you still going to be here if I do decide to stay?

Well, I'll be staying on and if I can work out how to do it, crossposting to captlycheee at dreamwidth. Based on a survey of deslea I can confidently say that's where people are going.

I'm not as fussed about running afoul of Russian law as some people are, so there's really no reason for me to move.

My thing is that the lure of easy posting on Facebook has meant I just don't post as often here as I probably should. Dreamwidth sin't going to be any different. Currently I have two posts there in just under six years, so I don't need to curb my enthusiasm.

I'll mainly stay for fridayhaiku

I was wondering about how I could export my posts in case the Politburo decides to close LJ down. Hmmm.

Hmm, yes, friday haiku. I started that, long ago, at the request of someone who left LJ soon after. Before long thought it was too much on my plate and handed it over to Deb Kolodji, who seems to sensibly let it run itself. I tend to forget it exists, which is a bit of a pity really. I guess one of its flaws, for me, is that it's hard to interact in a meaningful way. I liked the MySpace version (also started by me, as Haiku on Friday) which allowed for an opening post each Friday followed by a long stream of responses including other haiku. The fb version works more like the LJ one, but for some reason is a lot livelier. (I think it must be the 'Like' buttons and things. And the ease of posting accompanying pics if desired.) Maybe I'll start one on DW ... or look for something already existing there.

Oh gee, just went back for a visit / look-see. Omg it's clunky (trying to navigate around it). OK, def not mine any more; bye-bye Friday haiku.

Even with my foot in the door at Dreamwidth, I using their tool to mirror posts posts I write here rather than moving exclusively. Mainly because even bad privacy policy can't totally erase 16 years of memories.

I don't think Russians are going to limit the free speech of people outside of Russia. In fact, with all the Russian bots at Facebook, we're probably freer of Russian influence here.

Right now I'm cross-posting from Dreamwidth, and I'll continue in that mode unless something drastic happens.

Not planning on going anywhere for the present, though not terribly active on social media in general.
