So, I stick this stuff in the oven?

Oh! I meant to ask, also -- anyone have experience using Sculpey? Can you give me any pointers?

I used Sculpey at art school for making maquettes. What are you making? What I did was make a wire skeleton, then wrap it with aluminum foil and put the Sculpey on top of that. That way, when it cooks, it doesn't have to cook through a full block of pure Sculpey.

My friend says DON'T put it on the oven setting it says on the box. She suggests putting your oven on the lowest setting so it won't burn the Sculpey. You can just poke it and check to see if it's done. If it's hard, it's done.

She also recommends painting your sculpture with Turpinoid after you're done sculpting (but BEFORE you cook). It smooths it out and gets rid of all the crumbs.

Here's a good tutorial. It's super advanced, but you can pick out the basics.

Good luck!

That is all incredibly useful. Thank you SO much!
I'm just making a couple of small figures. I've made things with it before, but never actually made it to the oven stage so this is so helpful. :)

Eep, I spelled "turpenoid" wrong.

Now you're making ME want to sculpt something!

Ha ha! It's cool, I knew what you meant: The stuff in my painting box!
I haven't sculpted anything in a very, very long time -- even though that's technically what I got my degree in. Shameful! You should sculpt things! I'd love to see what you make.
