Yes, we are going to Iceland. Iceland! ICELAND. I can't remember ever being so excited for a trip. First stamp on the passport & all. Whoa

Oh WOW! I think you guys are much more adventurous than us, but ho, MAN that looks like it was a great trip! :) Is there anything that you would absolutely recommend? Activities? Food? Places to go? Etc? Things to avoid?
We're staying at an apartment-style guesthouse (Castle House) so we'll have the option to cook for ourselves. Thanks for the warning about the water. Everything I'd been reading said the tap water was fantastic for drinking. I'll be more careful now. Oh no! My poor husband. I think he was looking forward to seeing what Icelanders would do with Chinese food. Well, maybe some new places have sprouted up in the last few years? (I'll keep my fingers crossed!) I feel mousy in New York, so at least that won't be a change! Ha! Okay, we're definitely going to stop at the Blue Lagoon, either on the way to or from the airport, most likely. Thank you so much for all the advice!
Blue Lagoon. And if you can, it's REALLY worth your while to rent a car and drive the ring road around the island. We saw things we couldn't even imagine. Glaciers, lava fields, moonscapes, ravines, sheer cliffs of rock, mountains that look like the home of the gods, little farmhouses in the middle of nowhere. I've traveled around a lot, and Iceland remains my all time favorite destination
( ... )
I don't have a driver's license (yes, I know) so it would be up to my fellow to do the driving. Did you have any trouble with the gravel roads? I'll see if I can talk him into it. Otherwise we'll do the bus tours. We definitely need to leave the city. Vik is on my list of places I want to go, too. Good to hear the water may in fact be fine. I was just reading that running the cold water for a minute should clear any sulfur smell? I guess I'll find out soon enough!
Well, it's somewhat less expensive than usual at the moment, which might be why more folks are making the trip now. Otherwise... I dunno, it seems like an exciting place to visit? Any of your other peeps post photos, etc. on their blogs? I'm curious what other folks have enjoyed (or not!)
Not really, unfortunately. One's a twitter person who basically just said, "I will be off twitter because I will be in Iceland," and the other one came back engaged, so she really didn't talk much about the rest of the trip.
