She glowed in the bars of light streaming into the library, her golden hair sending off sparks. She sat curled in a chair, her feet tucked under her. Her chin rested on one hand, the other slowly turned pages in a dusty old book she was studying.
He watched, draped in shadow, as she nibbled on one oval fingernail. Her sharp white teeth made him shiver. One day, he swore, one day I'll have her at my feet begging. One day she'll need me and no one else. One day I will be the only one who can help her.
