Shattered gold equates to broken dreams. They had said the Death Eaters had all been captured or killed, but even the Order couldn’t account for all the sympathizers.
She had laughed at him when he’d tried to keep her from going out on her own. Said that he was being paranoid. Everything was safe now. Voldemort was dead. The Death Eaters were defeated. They had to get on with their lives, or they’d end up like Moody, hexing everything that moved without declaring its loyalties.
She’d only been gone for an hour. Ron had been mollified since she was just going straight from the house to Diagon Alley, and she was meeting Ginny there. He hadn’t a clue that she had barely made it through the entrance to Diagon Alley before someone had dragged her into Knockturn.
Luna had been the one to cast the hex that took down Draco. Some witnesses said he’d been trying to reason with her. Others said he was casting hex after hex, trying to take her down before she could get him. Ron remembered vividly Luna telling him it had been both.
“It was quite an ironic contrast, Ronald. He was begging for his life to be spared, swearing that he’d never truly done anything wrong, all the while trying to blow my head off.”
Ginny had been the one to find them. Pansy, hunched over Luna’s broken form, the crimson blood that stained her a stark contrast to her snow white skin and deep ebony hair. When she had seen Ginny, Pansy had grinned broader than the redhead had ever seen before.
“Tell your brother we’re even.”
Pansy had tossed the broken remains of the circular gold band that had been on Luna’s left hand at Ginny’s feet and apparated away.
