"Come on, Severus," Hermione called to the dark man behind her.

"Miss Granger, we shouldn't go traipsing through private property," scolded Severus.

She rolled her eyes at him. "Honestly, is that all you ever think about--rules and not breaking them?"

"Mostly," he growled.

"Well, stop. Besides, we're not trespassing; the town is open to tourists." It was famous for its holiday displays and Hermione wanted to see it.

The pair strolled down the streets in awe. Christmas lights twinkled everywhere while garland lined the doors and windows. Candy canes and shiny ornaments decorated the lawns, and a real-life Nativity was taking place in the square. The atmosphere was magical.

Down a side alley, Hermione spotted more lights tucked away and went to investigate.

Strings of white fell from a lamppost's apex like a star's rays. On impulse, she climbed through the strings to the center pole.

"Wow! Severus, come in here and see this."

She took his hand, guiding him into the circle.

It was magnificent. Light shown all around them.

"No shadows," Hermione observed.

She was right. The effect was like living inside light, the darkness but steps away and yet could never penetrate.

"Sometimes, I envision you like this," she said softly.

Severus turned to stare at her.

"Hidden in the dark, but shining so brightly."

He was moved by her insight. No one had ever compared him to radiance before.

As he cupped her face and kissed her gently, her eyes reflected the glow surrounding them.
