Title: The Innocent Package
Pairing: Severus Snape/Hermione Granger
Rating: PG
Summary: He wants to stay mad at her, but she always seems to know how to smooth things over.

Severus stared at the innocent package, wrapped in simple silver paper. His fingers slid beneath the attached envelope, removing it to read the note within. He knew who it was from without even looking-who else would it be but her?

He unfolded the thin parchment and read the words written upon it.

Severus,

You said you needed time to think everything through, and I respect that completely. However, it is the holiday season, and I think of you often. I miss you, and I’m not pressuring you, but you need to know that I love you.

I found this gift in a small bookshop in Scarborough. You might enjoy the proof that you were, in fact, right about the ancient use of Ashwinder eggs, among other things.

Things have been quiet at my parents home. They’re happy to have me here, but they wish you’d come along as well. Mum is planning to organize a package of gifts and sweets for me to bring home to you.

I’ll be home in time for the New Year, as agreed upon, and we’ll talk then.

Always,
Hermione

Severus set the note aside and slid his finger through the slit of the wrapping paper, peeling it away neatly to reveal the book inside. It was obviously very old, but the binding was strong, the pages well tended. His fingertips trailed over the title. He’d been searching for this book for near twenty years, yet somehow she’d found it.

“Damn her,” he muttered lovingly.
