I read this as a second part to the last story "New Quarters", and I have to say I develop a strong aversion against the "Department of Mysteries" attitudes..... quite high-handed "nothing is sacred" , but we are always right... - but, this said: it is a great story, one is completely hooked to get the answers, just as the protagonists are :-)

What a novel concept. And the lesson learned has been wiped from Severus' memory. Shame, that.

I agree with minervas_eule - this story is very in tune with the fine "New Quarters." (Severus has been fond of ham in several of this year's snapecase stories; love the continuity!)

This piece offers a fascinating take on house-elves' backstory. I've always been uncomfortable with the "happily-enslaved" house-elf plot in canon; it's very interesting to see an explanation for it.
