Real Life Update

Finally bonding with my new house, after spending a very lazy Sunday flopping around in it - trying out the new bath, finding the best spot for curling up with a book, discovering that having a dishwasher is really, really wonderful! I never thought I would be the kind of person to have a dishwasher. Nor for that matter, becoming a coffee snob. ( Read more... )

I want to read the Perez-Reverte books myself! They've received such great reviews.

Didn't know there were others, that's cool. I liked this one because instead of the irritating smart-arse male narrator who knows everything (appearing in most thrillers), the fencing master knows nothing about anything unrelated to fencing and just gets dragged along with events.
Nice idea.

I know what you mean about job interviews, I had one for a well known catalogue store as a team manager, which had been sold to me as temporary by the agency, and after a really good (but long) interview, I enquired whether or not they would be happy with me leaving at the end of may (I'm off to Australia on a two year work visa) to be told that the position was permanent! Unsurprisingly I didn't get it, and the agency had the cheek to complain to me that if I'd kept quiet I would have gotten it!

Ok mini rant over, but I understand totally the nature of interviews, houses and life in general.

Good luck with the second interview!

Thanks! There are so many horror stories about interviews! I hate the way they think they're doing you a favour by deigning to torture you for half an hour.

I had a very satisfactory moment a few years ago when I asked for one day off from a really tedious NHS job to go and watch the total eclipse in Cornwall. The manager said no, and I told her in that case, I would go anyway and not come back afterwards. Her face was a picture and I've never felt so empowered! *Cackle*

So you're off to Oz? That's really exciting. What are you going to do there?

I love feeling empowered, I got to tell my training supervisor off the other week, and it was glorious!

I'm semi going to work, and semi going to travel, I really can't wait, it's just working to save up cash now, but thats ok if you have a goal at the end of it, there's nothing worse than working day in day out without having anything to look forward to.
