Okay, so I'm just reading about the latest NHS scandal regarding "superbugs". As usual, the scapegoats in the sh** were the nurses. I am so sick of everyone getting on the bandwagon and pointing the finger of blame at us! The bottom line is - we do our best! I think a lot of people, no matter what their profession is, can relate to this. Appreciation from anyone is sadly lacking--but there's no shortage of finger-pointing.

Come to NZ, Elaine. Conditions are pretty tough because of tight budgets but nurses are well respected and appreciated. Barbara

Since I haven't been at the mercy of the NHS, what I have to say might not mean much, but I did propose to at least two of my labor and delivery nurses. In front of (and probably with the blessing of) my husband.

Even if you discount childbirth, I've had lots of experience with the healthcare machine in the U.S., and -- with one exception -- every nurse I've known has been worth more than their weight in gold. The value of a good nurse is unmeasurable. Your recompense, sadly, is likely nowhere near what it should be.
