I think a lot of people, no matter what their profession is, can relate to this. Appreciation from anyone is sadly lacking--but there's no shortage of finger-pointing.

Even if you discount childbirth, I've had lots of experience with the healthcare machine in the U.S., and -- with one exception -- every nurse I've known has been worth more than their weight in gold. The value of a good nurse is unmeasurable. Your recompense, sadly, is likely nowhere near what it should be.
