Yay for full-blown head-over-heels first flushes of fandom! I'm going through the same thing myself with an ITV show called Primeval. The beginning of a new-to-you fandom, when you can't get enough of it, and everything is shiny and new, and you haven't gotten bored with the fanfic, and you're still learning about the characters, and you're pestering your fanpushers incessantly with "OMG and...and..." emails *innocent whistle*...it's the best feeling ever.

Your observations on the similarities to Naruto are undoubtedly why TPTB decided to bring over a series about what's the equivalent of chess club. I LOVE the story and the characters, and I even tried to learn to play Go for a while because of it (and was miserable at it...no strategy in my head, just instinct, and it doesn't work for me like it does for Hikaru), but it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would attract kids who are used to physical fight scenes instead of mental ones. I've only been an anime and manga fan for three years, which means that I keep discovering series that other people have already been in love with and burned their way through years before. ;) But the catching-up is fun... And Hotaka Ran's crack art is great!
