what the fail?

Feb 04, 2011 01:52

So i'm updating this from my phone because my computer is suddenly unable to load...just about anything useful. Chrome is dead, Gmail is unreachable in any browser, as is any site I have to log into, and even my chat client is a no-go. I suspect it may be AVG, and am uninstalling it and its pervasive linkscan stuff to see if that helps ( Read more... )

I use avast!. Relatedly, I picked it up after AVG met my campus's security network and rejected the internet like a nerd in gym class.

+5 icon points.

AVAST! I'll try it! (And not just because it is a pirate's own antivirus program.)

Ah well. At least I can still be plugged in via my phone, even if it is le annoying. TECHNOLOGIES, HOW ABOUT THEM, WOT?!

had this problem the other day

1) Right click Chrome and tell it to run as administrator.
2) Check the options in it to make sure it hasn't got any sneak proxy settings popped up as checked off in there.
3) If you've any other AV programs, make sure that you haven't got Chrome (or any websites, etc) blocked by them.
4) Download TDSSKiller using some other browser and use it to check for any boogidy boogidies.

If it still doesn't work after all that, give a holler.

I shall try that when I get home - the thing is, it's happening on my iPod touch as well. I think it might actually be something the cable company is doing. O__o

I have no useful advice to give, as computer problems like this confuse and enrage me.

But I gotta say, awesome icon. I recently got to play Portal and...gosh darn it, I don't think I'm ever going to get any cake.

when you try to get into a site that requires login, do you get an error message or do you just clock until it says "can't reach site"?

The second. At first I was getting an error message about "search.avg.com" being unreachable, hence blaiming AVG. ...Blaiming. Right. Anyway, I no longer think that's the problem, because I can't access my mail or log-in sites on my ipod touch.

I can load everything fine on my smartphone, though, which doesn't use the wireless.

My first idea right now is to reboot the modem and/or the router and see what that clears up.
