Did you know John Lynch settled here in 1757 and opened a ferry across the James River? I read that on a sign. They have this awesome memorial hill thing with tons of steps that I climbed several times tonight. Lynchburg is basically in the middle of fucking no where. Except it's got mostly everything you'd want, all the big box stores are here, ( Read more... )

Welcome to southwest VA. Isn't it crappy? (although you seem to like Lynchburg)

I think it's beautiful -although lynchburg is a little bigger than blacksburg. everyone seems to be in good shape and I was running up and down stairs with like 6 other people. Which was neat, and they were all friendly. I'm craving lemonade for no apparent reason.

besides, I only have to be here 2 nights. the unfortunate part is john told me I wasn't allowed to go hiking alone. so close...yet so far away.

It is beautiful...to visit. The App. trail is not too far from campus. This whole area is an outdoorsie paradise. My advisor loves it. All he does is talk about all the trails nearby and hiking and blah blah blah. He's such a f*$king hippie.

I, on the other hand, would like to see a black person every once in a while. But they are paying me good grad school money so it would behoove me to stay here.

Lynchburg. *shudder* No thanks.

Umm...GaTech is also in/at/near the city. No issues with parking there. Pretty much ALL of blacksburg is Tech (VaTech for those not following) so how else/where else are people supposed to park?

The football does bring a lot of money and national attention to the school (which brings more money) and the businesses that depend on the school to survive. It also brings the aforementioned black people. heh

I will leave out my opinions of the players though because I've nothing good to say. I've had too many personal experiences.

Bburg is pretty and fun while an undergrad. Sure as heck wouldn't want to live there permanently.
