I think even if you didn't say it could be canon, I would've drawn Egg in the background somewhere just to spite the earth.

what does it say about the comic that Egg can be thrown into canon arbitrarily and it wouldn't change anything

I kind of envision it as this long nightmare sequence.

One night, Chekhov's dreaming, and it's like, bug vomit into food, Ivana, lamps, Egg, cockroach death horror angst. He is kind of unfazed by the rest of it, but won't say anything all day because he's pondering the symbolism of Egg.

Or Egg is in the background and gestures with the cane, as one does. No one is stupid enough to go with him because everyone is genre-savvy. They just all shake their heads and think, "huh, that was weird."

The dream went something like: Grendel was up to something and Chekhov was after him then got caught up in the usual mess, but then he couldn't expend the energy to be freaked out about the normal goings on because he was too busy being terrified of Egg.

Egg is one of those things no one in AU1 talks about. They all know he's there, like the bug people and birchface and the like, but no one is really ready to accept his existence.

It only happens once in a blue moon. I think this might be the only pros arch dream I've had thus far? I can't remember. Unless you count the dream I had where Spy drove us into a swamp full of alligators, but then you're getting meta.
