Ooo. I have run to amazon and ordered People of the Book. Sounds fascinating... and if it's as good as I think it might be, I may order it for my book history class.
I really liked how Brooks took an object -- the Sarajevo Haggadah -- which has had such an extraordinary existence to begin with, and created such a captivating, albeit fictional, history for it. And what kept it interesting was that the reader made the discoveries along with the restorer.
Ah, yes, well ... when one spends nine hours a day, four days a week for seven months at a bank branch where the average daily customer count was less than twenty (and those twenty souls were then divided between two or three tellers) one tends to get a good bit of reading done. I don't imagine I'll be quite so accompished this year, although I'm off to a good start ... three so far and working on a fourth.
I'll tell you what ... I got out of there in August and I have no regrets. I like the branch I'm currently at much better. Most days reading a book doesn't even cross my mind. I'd say my transaction count is probably on par with yours, now.

Hi!
Now that we had the big reveal, I just wanted to thank you personally for my gift--it was extremely enjoyable! I'm planning to go back and reread sometime this week. Your writing is wonderful!
I'm envious that you've gotten to read so many books. Actually, the first book on your list, Chocolat, was the most recent book I've read. I liked it a lot and read it in about a day.

Greetings, my dear! My sincerest apologies for taking so long to reply -- I'm rarely on LJ these days and don't check my "LJ email" more than once a week or so.
I'm really glad you enjoyed the story. You had some intriguing prompts, but I find post-DH stories difficult to write, so I was extremely nervous about how my little tale would be received. I'm relieved thatit was to your liking.
Ah ... the book reading. An unusual year for me, as I was working at a bank branch that saw very little customer traffic. Nine hour days with 15-25 customers shared between two tellers. Yawn! Needless to say, I had plenty of time for reading, and as I'm a fairly fast reader, it wasn't uncommon for me to read a book in a day. Chocolat was fantastic. I want to read more of Joanne Harris' work.
