Sounds like you're having fun!! I can't believe you get to go to Chile! Also, that does suck about Ali. I know how hard long-distance relationships can be.
Also, I don't know if you know yet, but Laurent got a job doing LIDAR surveys in the north of France! I think they're making a special position for him, and he gets like 9 weeks of holiday per year. . .I'm sure he'll be telling everyone pretty soon. He starts in 2 weeks.
