(no subject)
watched Inception yesterday! It was somewhat mind-boggling but also awesome and I recommend it! I will write more intellectual thoughts about it later but for the meantime I feel the need to say this, because, well, I have time on my hands:
so some parts of the internets are all IS JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT OVERRATED HE CAN'T REALLY ACT CAN HE AND SCREW ALL YOU NEW FANGIRLS FOR STICKING PHOTOS OF HIM AND NOT LEO DICAPRIO ALL OVER TUMBLR. to that I say, ladeez/gentlemen, CALM DOWN! I will readily admit that I am one of them giggly girls who thinks he's a total cutie, but I refuse to feel bad for thinking that! SO WHAT if it makes me uncool and mainstream. if people are not plastering their tumblrs with pictures of Leo perhaps it is because everyone already KNOWS he is a pretty damn solid actor. after Titanic the whole freaking world was crushing on him and honestly he looks a lot better now??? also, consider the average age/profile/demographic of the average tumblr user! they are more likely girls who like cuteindieboys (or are cuteindieboys, perhaps) than Old Film Critics like...the NYT crew or Roger Ebert or someone.
anyway, yeah, so here's my two cents' worth - I liked that JGL was in the movie, and I liked Arthur and Ariadne (you know which bit I'm talking about), and if I'm all HI BB YOU CAN INCEPT MY DREAMS ANYTIME it is SIMPLY BECAUSE he was ALL GROWN UP and blowing up elevators and toting guns and I was like MM BB YOU ARE BADASS NAO. I don't think his acting is particularly GROUNDBREAKING in the movie (I read some blog posts* about how his character is Loyal and Dependable and Grounded and all that; to be honest I haven't thought about it in so much detail and I can't be bothered to) and it is clear that the actors surrounding him were much more at ease (imho even Ellen Page, I'd wager) but hey if I was in my mid-20s (shit I nearly am) and had the opportunity to act in a Chris Nolan movie with a stellar cast I would take the chance and run with it too. I WILL say though that I DO NOT think Michael Cera is the most accurate comparison to him! Michael Cera keeps playing the same kind of slacker boi role and I do not like it much (anymore). I think...perhaps JGL is a LITTLE more diverse in his roles haha.
YEAH. so I have crushed mildly on JGL before, and last week I crushed on Imran Khan, and now I am crushing more than mildly on JGL, and by tomorrow I will have watched the Howl trailer ten more times and will go back to crushing on James Franco. SO WHAT! I spent my teenage years being a sensible indie-kid old soul who Admired the Talent of Old Men like Johnny Depp and Viggo Mortensen and Gary Oldman with their poetry and painting and mad acting skillz, and now I am out of my teenage years and I crush on mildly talented but good-looking people like Jay Sean and Imran Khan and perhaps Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I AM 21 AND IT IS SUMMERTIME AND I AM SECURE IN MY FANGIRLING.
haha okay so I will get off my soapbox now and continue googling for crazy Inception theories! or JGL photos. WHO KNOWS~~~
edit: okay I also want to add that while my instinctive response to all this debate about him being the Riddler was TEEHEE YES PLS but in all honesty it makes me a LITTLE BIT nervous! I would root for Neil Patrick Harris over him but hey I'm gonna watch the movies anyway so it doesn't really matter to me in the larger scheme of things~~~
