“I’m really surprised that you came,” he says when the cameras are off and everyone is packing up for the night.
“I have a lot of spare time,” she says with a smile. “Besides, I had to come and make sure my husband is doing all right in a foreign country.”
He’s not sure if the words are simply left over from filming or if the term husband actually has meaning to her. Outside of their fabricated romance they don’t call each other like Andy and Solbi, they don’t collaborate musically like Crown J and In Young and they don’t have a fan following like Alex and Shinae.
Hyun Joong does, however, appreciate the small moments they share just before they part ways and step into their real lives.
Hwang Bo wasn’t the woman he expected to end up with when management told him he was going to take part in the show. A young girl, perhaps from one of his peer groups, someone like himself that was trying to boost their popularity.
Truthfully he had been disappointed when he first saw her. Disappointed and intimidated.
“I’ll be here early,” she says, snapping him out of his memories. He watches as she grabs her bag and smiles at him.
“I’ll be here. Don’t wake up too early.”
He still feels awkward around her, just like when they first met, but he’s painfully aware that this time the awkwardness stems form something else.
He leans in and kisses her on the cheek, “Good night.”
He nearly misses the flash of sadness in her eyes before she smiles. “Sleep well, husband.”
