There’s a familiar sound on the other end of the room, the noise of bed sheets rustling and the soft sound of bare feet tip toeing across the room. It doesn’t surprise Shindong anymore when Kyuhyun can’t sleep and crawls into his bed. He doesn’t complain when the younger male crawls underneath his bed sheets and spoons against him.
Kyuhyun’s always been the type to let his anxieties get the better of him. Always on edge, wanting to do his best, wanting to please his fans and critics. Shindong hates watching him work himself into a sad state of worry.
“Out of everyone in Super Junior, you have the least to worry about,” Shindong tells him one day. “Your voice is going to take you places.”
His words make Kyuhyun smile and that makes Shindong happy.
The two fit comfortably together as Kyuhyun holds onto Shindong and Shindong places his hands over Kyuhyun’s. Neither of them say anything, they never do, but Shindong soon hears his breathing slow down as he falls asleep.
Shindong worries about Kyuhyun. He won’t be there to comfort him in China.
“Can I ask you something hyung?” Kyuhyun asks one day as he packs his suitcase. It’s his last night in Korea.
“Of course.” He puts down his game, he can save the virtual world some other day, and puts his full attention on the youngest of thirteen.
Kyuhyun fiddles with the shirt he was folding and mumbles a small, “Never mind.”
“Come on, you can ask me anything.”
Kyuhyun looks away and Shindong swears that he sees him blush.
“Can I have one of your... shirts?” his voice is so soft Shindong barely hears him.
When Shindong doesn’t reply to the question Kyuhyun begins to murmur quick excuses. “I mean, you know, so I can sleep at night. Since it’s a new place... and you won’t be there... and...”
“Sure, take one.” Sure, he finds the request odd, but at the same time it makes him feel special that Kyuhyun is asking him for something to remind him of Shindong. Not Eeteuk, not Yesung, but him, Shindong.
Kyuhyun lights up and smiles as Shindong, going over to his closet to look through his clothes. It amazes Shindong how something so small can make Kyuhyun so happy.
Kyuhyun settles on a green hoodie and folds it neatly before packing it with the rest of his stuff.
“You’re so weird,” Shindong says with a small laugh.
Kyuhyun looks over at him with furrowed brows.
“I like that you’re weird.”
Kyuhyun smiles.
A week later Kyuhyun calls.
“I really miss you,” he says in a soft voice.
“I miss you too.”
“I think I love you.”
Shindong falls silent.
“I’m sorry, but I love you.”
“When you get back we’ll play lots of video games and you can sleep in my bed every night,” Shindong says quickly.
“Hyung...”
“I fell in love with you when you first crawled into my bed, Kyuhyun.”
“I feel so sick without you and I don’t know if I can do this. Everything is so weird and I don’t know what they’re saying or what they want from me and I can’t sleep at night because you’re not here and-”
Shindong interrupts him, “Do your best. Focus on your work and do your best.”
“Donghee... I really mi-”
“I love you, Kyuhyun.”
“...I love you too.”
Even though Shindong can’t see him he can feel the warmth of Kyuhyun’s smile. Shindong knows it’ll be tough, but he knows that Kyuhyun can do it.
