This is really smart. I have... thoughts about recovering from my own disordered eating and bodily autonomy and trying to lose weight which this helped refine. But basically yes:

They are trying to sell us stuff.

I think for me, because I don't have a TV and don't listen to commercial radio or read magazines, I miss a lot of it. When I want clothes, I go look on the internet, and I have ad-block.

One of the most useful things my dietician ever said to me (which I acknowledge is ableist and maybe not useful for other people) she said when she was totally exasperated: "You cannot hate your body and love yourself. Instead of judging your body by how it looks, and resenting it for needing food, try applauding it for what it can do." That... shifted something inside me.
