Open House advice

Apr 30, 2009 14:38

Hi,

I want to hold an Open House for my tiny non-profit.

What would make you want to attend an open house type event?  (Keep in mind it's a non-profit which means little money to throw around on this).

I am not quite following... what is the definition of "Open House" in this context?

First of all, what is the purpose of the Open House and who do you want to attract? What does your non-profit do? Are you looking to attract donors, volunteers, or is this just a publicity stunt? Is this in connection with a special event? Board Meeting?

Otherwise...yeah, everyone likes punch and pie.

Ok, here's the deal.

I am an Americorp state member for Community Mediation Maryland, based in one of the more "rural" county offices.

May 9-16 is "National Americorps Week". I'm supposed to advertise my Americorps experience and say how great it is to serve, we should all do this, etc.

Further, they say this is a chance to show yourself off while getting outreach/publicity for your *particular site* - for example in the form of an Open House.

Like..."Don't know much about your local Community Mediation Center? Come on by! Our services are voluntary, confidential and FREE!"

Even more specific is my interest in getting referrals.
