Ezio was born to a noble family, the Auditore, in Florence, Italy. He was the middle son, and second of four children to the Auditore family. He lived the life of luxury until he was 17 years of age, when a fight between the Pazzi and the Auditore broke out in the streets. We're not talking West Side Story here, but... General concept. Without the snapping... It is important to note that Ezio had no idea about their family's allegiance to the Assassin's Order, and that he was a very skilled climber, even beating his elder brother in a race to the top of a church.
Things went very awry one fateful day, when Ezio returned home to find that his family had been imprisoned and set to be executed. It was only after that Ezio learned of his family's ties to the Assassin's order and first adorned his father's assassin uniform. He, though unrefined, was quite skilled for a novice. Especially in getting his sister and mother out of Florence, and to a little poor villa called Monteriggioni in Tuscany. This is where Ezio's uncle, another assassin named Mario, would teach and refine his assassin techniques. With the help of Leonardo da Vinci, Ezio obtained many unique weapons to supplement his profession including two hidden blades, a very primitive hand pistol, or even a flying machine.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze.
Fierce Assassin: Ezio is very skilled in his assassin skills, and he takes a lot of pride in what he does. At first, it was about revenge, and can considered to be revenge throughout the game, but also begins showing a more honor and loyalty driven side that is much more an allegiance to his Order than anything else. ... Though it's still just full of revenge.
This includes his super sneaky self. Though you'd think someone in that sexyloud of an outfit would be noticeable, Ezio has a real talent in getting around cities. And he knows it. Be it from the rooftops or even blending in with a group of people on the streets, he knows how to make himself invisible, and when he doesn't want to be found? He won't be. That only contributes to his ego, which can get out of hand sometimes. Then again, when you take out a corrupt pope... you've got some bragging rights. And oh, does he brag.
Lady Killer: Let it be known that Ezio Auditore is a regular lady killer. He tactfully, and sometimes very untactfully, uses his charming personality to sway the opposite gender. He's shown to have a real love of the ladies through various missions in the game, young, old, pretty, what have you. Throughout Italy, he's known as a regular thug when it comes to cheating husbands. If wives know about it, they select Ezio to ... beat the crap out of them until they agree to treat their ladies better.
This is quite the chivalric behavior, as Ezio never leaves a woman unhelped. And the ladies show him a lot of kindness for his actions. In fact, he learned a lot of stealth from the prostitutes with Paola in Florence.
Subtle Like a Hot Pink Ninja: Let's be honest here. Ezio... is not the most subtle assassin ever. Especially in his youth. He's brash, lets his emotions get the better of him, and his lack of real experience can lead to some... less than desirable tactics. This is something Ezio is rather unfamiliar with, considering he grew up in a life of luxury. He does pick up subtlety a little faster as time goes on and he gets a few good kills under his belt.
Once he learns that subtlety, Ezio is a regular killing machine. Paired with his freerunning skills, it makes a very lethal combo for anyone who stands in his way, and Ezio isn't afraid to throw his skills around to get answers. Good examples of this would be chasing down thieves, beating up cheating husbands, y'know. The normal.

That's all well and good. Sure, he's good at what he does, but at his core, Ezio is much more than a faceless assassin. He has a personality to boot.
First and foremost, whereas he is a master of deception, he is one of the most sincere people around. Being genuine and sincere in his business is a bit of a rarity. Really, Ezio has a heart of gold. His loyalty to the people of his guild and even the people of Italy cause Ezio's decisions to sway--more for the people than for himself. ... This is to say... after he receives some formal assassin training and calms his emotions.
This talent of Ezio's is two-sided. Whereas he can be the most genuine, he can also be the most ruthless. Make enemies with the Auditore and you, too, will be on his hitlist. And no one wants to be on that list. This callousness and downright vicious behavior is something Ezio classifies as his duty; thus, taking a life does not seem to affect him psychologically. Being judge, jury, and executioner makes this a little easier.
Seeing as a lot of his assassinations have been on the grounds of revenge, Ezio does not harm civilians--even the stupid drunk guys that push him around. This is not only part of the Assassin's Creed, but is highly based on his honor. This virtue was instilled into him from childhood. The life of a noble leaves quite an impression of one's peers. Ezio holds these honors very high.
From time to time. Ezio makes a large mistake because of his emotions. And his emotions are not the only problem. He's good. And he knows it. That ego of his can get out of hand sometimes. Especially when it comes to the opposite gender. Ezio is, as aforementioned, amazingly charming and can sweep most women off of their feet. Thus, say a woman is in danger or had some unjustness done to her? Ezio will go out of his way to make sure she is avenged.
