Just the other day I was reading about a phenomenon called 'the uncanny valley'. To put it briefly, if you make a computer generated character, or a robot or something, very lifelike, people will find it cute and appealing, but when it gets *too* close to being human, people will suddenly be revulsed ( Read more... )

There's a lot of reasons people may have grown to dislike you. Over the years, you change as a person, and other people change as well. That means that the people you used to be friends with may no longer be that compatible with you (and the other way around).

Of course, if even new people you get to know quickly dislike you, it's not just that. Maybe it *is* because you're trying hard to act normal but other people - on some level - perceive that you aren't being genuine to yourself. This is a perception I usually have, as I can sense (usually through subtle body language) if someone is being honest or pretentious. People don't know *why* you are being less than genuine, however, so they may keep their distance just in case.

Or maybe as you grew older you just became less likable. That's possible. *g* We're all different, and not all of us get along easily with others. I've noticed that I have a lot more trouble being open, social and friendly now than five years ago.
