When I'm at work, I feel so poor. I am surrounded by people who work full time and don't have to worry about paying for school to boot. They own houses, or can afford to rent the ones they are in. They don't help support a sister, mother, and brother out of their paychecks. They have spouses or significant others who contribute to joint finances ( ( Read more... )

i just remind myself that they were all in my position once...and keep on plugging along. i take every opportunity i can.

and i rant about rich people to jon on a regular basis...and he really is one. he makes about 4 times as much as i made last year...it's sad looking at all he owns and what money he has coming in and that he has investsments and money market accounts with thousands of dollars. very often i get incredibly jealous of him.

but i just keep thinking...things will get better. sometimes you have to just suffer a little but think of what you are working toward? a couple years from now you'll look back and think of how far you've come.

I like to re-examine why I'm supporting three people out of my paycheck.

I know you, which is why I'm sure you have well examined reasons. Still, it's not fair to you in any way. Maybe there's some way to make them less dependent on you? If they rely on you for money, that's gives you lots of leverage to alter the situation. It sounds machiavellian, but if you can lean on them to get them working or otherwise doing what they should be, then you've done them a favor.

The other option is to put up with it for now and think about all the money you'll be making when you're out of school. Hopefully your relatives won't still be expecting you to support them then, too.
