Under so much construction ;;
The Symbols.
| Nakama. Receiving this mark puts you on the highest tier of Usopp's respect, affection and loyalty. Not to say he didn't respect and like you previously; apparently somewhere down the line, you've just done something really right to drive it home. There is nothing he wouldn't do for your sake (screeching and whining while he does it notwithstanding), including but not limited to running errands, taking four-ton bats to the face and proceeding to make dramatic speeches about your merits after, and carrying you across a battlefield of Marine Admirals. In fact, if the opportunity arose he would jump to your defense instead of having someone jump to his. On another note, he actually genuinely cares what you think about him to boot (usually because he knows you're friend enough to accept him in all his lying, shrieking, hiding glory). All that tl;dr-ing aside: if you can't trust Usopp to have your back, you just can't trust anyone.
| Friendship. Yeah, self-explanatory. One being acquainted and not disliked, five being just shy of nakama level. It's not so hard to get to two or three, but upward from there will be harder.
| Dislike. This is the symbol of Usopp's distaste for you. One is mild dislike and it's just going to have to vary from there.
| Romantic interest. Admittedly not impossible, even if quite unlikely. One heart = light crush, five = just about in it for life.
Canon
Monkey D. Luffy
"Wolf lion? That's AWESOME!"
|
Pirate captain and very good friend, Luffy is the one who defeated Captain Kuro and saved Usopp's village from being invaded. They usually have more of a lighthearted, easy-going interaction- just being boys and having fun- but if the situation called for it, Usopp could always count on Luffy to have his back and he'll always do his best to have Luffy's back in return. Admittedly, things were different for a while when Usopp left the crew; but once he returned that just became part of the past and it pretty much stays there. One of his strongest moments in battle came from defending Luffy's dream, and he'd die before betraying his captain. Luffy expects nothing more than for Usopp to do everything he can and is happy with the effort- and of course, he likes Usopp's stories and didn't laugh at his dream. Nami
"Oi, just how many enemies do you have here?"
|
Nami and Usopp have the special privilege of being the only two utterly normal people on the crew, in terms of strength. They also seem to have the most normal span of common sense. Therefore, they share a certain kind of connection and an understanding that they'll have to rely on each other to get through half of what Luffy drags them into. She also keeps him in line on occasion and comes to his rescue about as often as he does hers. Maybe even a little more.
Luceti...proves to be a trying time for being normal, because for some reason Nami just keeps attracting enemies that he can't help against. And with these crew kidnappings being apparently unavoidable and unpreventable, it seems that the most he can do is look the Clima Tact over once in a while and make sure she hasn't up and disappeared. To say he's paranoid about her well-being would be an understatement. This leaves her entitled to just as much worry as any other crew member- even of the tough-love variety. It turns out that when push comes to shove, Usopp can actually man up enough to put his foot down with her and really mean it. And he lived through that endeavor.
He finds that he kind of relies on Nami and her common sense to drag him out of emotional funks, in a style only she ever really seems to manage. And Usopp tries his damn best to return the favor whenever he can- she's had a lot of hard times in this place, after all. Maybe he can't relate to what she's gone through exactly, but he knows how it feels to have bad shit happen without nakama around for it and he just plain knows her.
"Dead Bones" Brook
"You've got blankets and coats and food and everything, right?"
|
Brook is the newest member of the crew back in their home world, but that and the fact that he's a skeleton have pretty much ceased to make Usopp like him less than any other member. This could be partially due to his self-sacrificial behavior on Shabondy, when he came between Kuma and Sanji and Usopp to save them and was vanished as a result. They both enjoy company in nearly any form and are almost always up for talking. Usopp can kind of relate to the attention-seeking side of Brook, since that's how he spent a lot of time growing up and screaming his ass off about pirates, and they both hate to see anybody else depressed over something.
Brook is the guy who goes out of his way to cheer Usopp up when he's upset about something, since Usopp's no good at cheering himself up. Since he showed up in luceti, Usopp's been in keeping with a ridiculously consistent mother-hen nature when it comes to their resident musician. Shouldn't have to take care of yourself all the time, right? He's also proven to be an excellent buddy for harmless and distracting shenanigans- it's nice to have someone who never stops trying to cheer you up and also manages to be a total dork right alongside you.
Tony Tony Chopper
"...don't you ever miss your home island?"
|
Chopper is like the little brother Usopp would never have otherwise. And Usopp is quite glad to have him at that. He's great for telling stories to, looks up to Usopp and Usopp is more than happy to keep telling stories and enjoy the glory. Though he's often the cause when Chopper ends up freaking out over something, he's just as quick to do what he can to get him to calm down. And of course, he is also Chopper's obligatory reminder of the fact that HE is the doctor.
Chopper has had to do a lot of hardcore doctoring in his time here in luceti, a great deal of it on his own and without panicking- Usopp is incredibly proud of him for rising to the occasion like that so many times. Protectiveness levels over the baby of the family have increased tenfold given his second kidnapping. Black Leg Sanji
"Everything is going to be just fine."
|
Sanji is another example of a crewmate Usopp can look up to and an even better example of a crewmate Usopp can hide behind. Their relationship can teeter between pals, bickering five year olds and serious comrades in a very short amount of time. Sanji has shown an understanding of the way Usopp thinks and works- during the battles on Enies Lobby, he was the one to snap Usopp out of his depression in order to save Robin's life. Sanji seems to have taken Usopp-ass-saving up as a personal hobby of sorts. He sacrificed himself so that Usopp and Nami could escape the God Eneru, jumped in during Usopp's fight with Jyabura just as he was about to be killed and placed himself between Usopp and Kuma on Shabondy (much as Brook had done for the two of them). He's good at bringing Usopp back down to the planet earth when it's needed, but is also sometimes indulgent about that kind of thing. Really just depends on his mood. Usopp in return provides him with the occasional snarky remark and necessary slap to the back of the head. Sometimes the guy gets carried away.
The Dragobete event proved to be one that added some level of strain to their relationship. Usopp dares you to fall in love with your personal Sanji for a week and not walk out of it confused as hell and awkward to boot. The aftermath of that has definitely been allowed to settle by the both of them- no room for hanging on to awkwardness with all the levels of difficult shit that the crew's been going through., not to mention the fact that hey: they're still nakama no matter what happens. Usopp is very glad for that, because Luceti is the kind of place that leaves you needing your friends one-hundred percent still there for you.
And he is still not afraid to mother you, Sanji, no matter how much you may gripe about it. It's what he does and does well right now.
Roronoa Zoro
"----"
|
For all that he's terrifying intimidating (something Usopp couldn't help but notice in the first few days knowing him), Zoro is also one of the members of the crew that Usopp looks up to the most. Given that Usopp's dream is to be a brave warrior of the sea, it isn't that hard to understand why. He has a lot of respect for Zoro's protectiveness of the crew and loyalty to Luffy, two things he can be confident he'll never see change. Usopp can prod Zoro around like cattle, slap him and shriek at him and hide behind him- and he also has an uncanny knack for getting out of it alive and with all his body parts attached. Not having a million things in common doesn't mean they're any less nakama for it. He's like an older brother who's long used to the more annoying traits of his younger siblings- and he's never afraid to tell Usopp like it is. Expectations are made clear and Usopp will do anything he can to live up to them.
Zoro not remembering his first stay in Luceti is...worrying. Not that he still wouldn't trust Zoro to keep everyone safe, but Usopp's doing what he can to keep an eye on the guy without getting his ass kicked for it. Just in case he starts up a conversation with the wrong citizen. Boa Hancock
"----"
Usopp isn't quite sure what to make of the whole "Luffy's beloved" thing, but then again he isn't really going to try. Luffy defies all logic, you see, and Boa seems to be nice enough. Scary, yes- but nice. And more power to her if she can handle his captain's madness.
Luceti
This is the space for Luceti friends/foes. If you think you should be here, tell me and I'll consider it.
Naoki
""
Naoki is possibly the first official out-of-crew duckling Usopp made a point of adopting. He's smart, fun, optimistic and just a really great guy: Usopp finds that he can't help but mother him. He can always count on having a really great talk when Naoki's involved, and has even been mother-henned a little bit in return. If he ever needs anything, all he has to do is ask and Usopp will likely be on the job. Luka Megurine
"----"
Usopp met Luka over the journals not long after he arrived in Luceti, and even though they haven't known each other that long he considers her a good friend. Not only is she an awesome singing android, she comes from a really interesting world that he probably could never hear enough about. Planes in particular have him fascinated. Luka holds a particularly special little place in Usopp's heart because she calls him Captain, in faith that he'll be one someday like he dreams. She also listens to his stories and believes them, defends him if someone speaks badly of him and seems fond of him for encouraging her free will. Vash the Stampede
"It's a good dream to have."
Vash is most decidedly Usopp's friend. Among his first acquaintances in luceti and his snowman apprentice of sorts, he's also gotten along very well with the rest of the crew. Usopp isn't really in a place to think badly of his dreams and ideals, seeing as he, on occasion, can be considered too idealistic. Everyone likes peace anyway, right? Vash: if you ever die again, Usopp is going to kick your ass. Miyabi
"Though it will not replace the old one, the new ship is a fresh start to being another story, correct?"
Miyabi is just an absolute sweetheart, plain and simple. She's an excellent artist, which in Usopp's opinion gives them even more of a connection. He feels quite obligated to dislike anything that makes her feel bad and to cheer her up in such events. Even if they'd met under happier circumstances he'd probably still do that, though. She's proven to be a really good friend to the Strawhats, and he wouldn't have minded if she stayed with them longer than she did. At all. She should visit more often. Noel
"W-well, if you need anything, please don't hesitate to let me know."
Anyone who is such a good friend of Nami's is already as good as his own friend, Usopp figures. Noel is just as much of a trouble magnet as his good friend the navigator, it turns out, and is perhaps as prone to fail as he is. Go figure. In all seriousness, she's really nice and wouldn't let anything happen to Nami if she could help it, so honorary nakamaship is pretty much a go. Leonard McCoy
"Magic, reindeers and demons; I feel enlightened the longer I'm stuck in this damn place."
The first commendable thing about this man is that he's been exposed to Usopp's seemingly never-ending stream of words and survived the ordeal. And got the gist of what was being said, no less: a feat not seen since...since One Piece canon. He's offered a lot of help to the crew, something that simply cannot go unappreciated even if (luckily) he's yet to have to provide medical care for them. Usopp is often easily intimidated and McCoy can be kind of intimidating, true. But he's also surprisingly easy to talk to, so Usopp will just bounce back from that more than willing to keep chattering at him. Just wait til you hear his stories. Ginko
"You and your damn creepy mushi stories."
Ginko is, simply put, a horrendous troll-- but Usopp's always kind of been a magnet for that, and at least this one comes with an incredible world and fascinating stories. He seems to be developing a repeated habit of sleeping on the roof of the Strawhats, which Usopp takes in stride about as well as Ginko takes his general spazziness in stride. He was really helpful when kid-Sanji was running amok, not to mention that normal-Sanji seems to be particularly fond of him: he's practically an honorary Strawhat by now, for all that Usopp doesn't know a lot about him.
It didn't make him any less willing to spread the mothering when he was using their couch as a hospital bed, though, and he's more than willing to do it again if he has to. Be prepared, Ginko.
Donatello
"You're still a person, even if you're not a human."
Having conversations with Donatello always proves to be a unique experience for Usopp: they can span from serious matters to lighter subjects without too much effort, and he always comes out of it smiling. The fact that Don is a turtle-man doesn't really faze him, given that he's on the crew of a rubber-man with a skeleton, a reindeer-man and a cyborg. Usopp hopes to find more reasons to talk to the guy, it's really fun.
Don's proven to be a really, really nice guy- he orchestrated the construction of the new playground, stayed with a friend who collapsed to help her get better and was even willing to plan to draw in droids to try to find a way to beat them. Not that anyone has managed to do that, to Usopp's knowledge. He thinks he might just have to look out for the guy a little. ...and feels kind of guilty that he's right; Usopp won't be able to completely understand where he's coming from in terms of how things were on his home world. He hopes to keep trying, though.
Buffy Summers
"Running's good. I frequently advise running."
McCoy's housemate, little known to Usopp, and thereby his new neighbor. Usopp finds it surprisingly easy to talk to her about things he doesn't want to discuss with his nakama. She was his main source of venting about the Sanji situation during and after the Dragobete event with little to no judging or mockery, something that will earn her points forever. He hopes that she gets a few reasons to cheer up soon, she's nice enough to deserve it. Sokka
"----"
A friend of Toph and (as far as Usopp knows currently) Sanji's. He's a pretty fun guy to be around, even if Usopp doesn't always get whether he's joking or not. When he can tell, Sokka is really funny. He also seems to be a fellow man in love with the ocean, which never hurt in getting on Usopp's good side. Malnosso (in general)
"----"
If Usopp attempted a list of the charges against them at this point, it would be never-ending. Suffice it to say he would willingly go along to kick their asses if Luffy found a way.
