[Riza Hawkeye was naturally an early riser. It was the nature of her work. Most of the time, she didn't even need an alarm; she woke just before the sun came up and was ready to go about her day. Today

Well, I check the portraits everyday as well. It's a good way to keep an eye on who's coming and going. You've got the right house. Ah, has anyone explained to you what's going on?

The portraits change when people come and go?

[She nods, taking a moment to piece together the information she'd already been given.]

I know that we're in Mayfield, where we have no say in if we come or if we go, and that I am not the only person to wake up in a 'marriage' to a person I have no memory of with a family I've never seen before.

I've also heard about the drones from several people now with varying theories of what really happens to them and why. One person told me the souls of the drones are used to process energy for the city while someone else mentioned that they are believed to have been people with free will.

Mm. I'm not totally sure if the part of the souls is true, considering everything that happened... but that's a really long story. I-I've been here for a year and a half, so I've seen a lot. The last thing I want to do is overwhelm you, though. There's a lot to take in.

[A pause.]

Um. There is a pamphlet, though.

[She shrugged slightly, doubting that much could overwhelm her now.]

I'm in the military at home. Getting a lot of information at once is easy enough to handle. Waking up in bed with a stranger is a different story. I apologize if I woke you this morning..

Miss Lan Fan gave me a copy of the pamphlet. I ran into her while I was walking earlier today.

[He smiles a little, sympathetically.] Don't worry about it. And I guess if you have the pamphlet, if you have any questions, I might be able to help.

Ah, Lan Fan? Is that someone you know from home...?

Currently? The last thing that happened w-was on July Fourth, where e-everyone was getting droned, or partly droned, and i-it was... [He rubs his forehead absently, his expression difficult to read] intense.

Oh, well, it's always good, knowing people from home. Must make life here a little easier to deal with.

Are you all right? [She frowned at his sudden nerves, her gaze softening. Not!Mommy instincts were kicking in; she did have a motherly streak in her and it tended to show when someone younger was clearly distraught.]

Not as much as I would have thought initially. I worry about her, she's alone in a home full of drones. The other person that I recognize here is an enemy at home.

Well, if you want, people can stay away from home three days before they get droned. So, if you like, I'm sure she could stay here if she's uncomfortable with the drones.
