Even though its short, I loved the way you wrote this and the way you described the tension and the emotion of this scene, it certainly doesn't disappoint. I like the emphasis and repetition of 'there's no desire'.
'no desire to join in on a suicide mission with people poorly dressed.' : urghh, so Ruby and so lovely. A nice little piece (:

Thanks, Ibu! I feel a bit silly submitting such a short piece, but it's the thought that counts, right? (Besides, quality before quantity ;-) Glad you liked it and that you thought Ruby was ic! He's one of your most written characters, after all.
And the 'no desire', yes, I do feel that at heart Ruby is an apathetic person; he has passions, of course, some of which are hidden and some of which are apparent (contests) - but when it comes down to it, I think he experiences a certain disappointment about life and about himself. At this stage, at least. I do feel like it changes as the arc progresses. :)
