Olive Snook was born to rich but distant parents who put themselves before their daughter. When she was nine years old, she had her first riding lesson and decided afterwards she wanted an Arabian stallion. When her parents refused, she decided to get one on her own by digging to Arabia. She instead dug up a triceratops skeleton, and an Arabian sheik offered to buy it from her. She accepted and got her horse.
Later in life, Olive became a professional horse jockey. She and her horse, The Pie, were an excellent team, beaten only by fellow jockey John Joseph Jacobs. Tragically, in the Jock-Off 2000, Jacobs fell off his horse due to a cut girth on his saddle and was trampled by the other racers, including eventual winner Olive. She and the other three competitors burned the saddle afterwards, and Olive stored the winnings in a safe-deposit box, determined never to spend the blood money.
When The Pie died, Olive began looking for a new vocation, and stumbled upon a struggling bakery with a pie for a roof. She took it as a sign and was hired as a waitress by the handsome but distant Ned. She moved into the apartment complex above the Pie Hole and began dog-sitting Ned’s dog, Digby, and was happy (though she would have preferred if Ned liked her back), even when the sarcastic, pessimistic Emerson Cod started coming around the Pie Hole. One day, though, a mysterious brunette waltzed into the Pie Hole and stole Ned’s heart.
Thus, Olive Snook gained a rival.
She soon realized the new girl was none other than Lonely Tourist Charlotte Charles, who had died on a cruise. She became convinced that Chuck had faked her death, no matter how much Chuck told her otherwise.
Olive came in on one of her days off and found the delivery boy was leaving behind a pie because it was out of the usual delivery route. Empathizing with the abandoned pie, Olive took it to a creepy, unwelcoming house that, she soon discovered, was where the famous synchronized swimming team the Darling Mermaid Darlings had locked themselves away. She became friends with Lily and Vivian, and found that they were Chuck’s aunts. She also met a traveling homeopathic salesman named Alfredo Aldarisio, who fixed the Pie Hole’s broken espresso machine, but didn’t realize that she loved him until he had moved on.
One day, Chuck trusted Olive to make a pie to deliver to Lily and Vivian, giving her a dropper and saying it was vanilla she always added to their pies. Olive added a few drops, felt it was too weak, and added a lot more. That was the night she discovered it wasn’t vanilla, but an herbal mood enhancer, and when, during a drug-induced hallucination, Lily admitted to Olive that she was not Chuck’s aunt, but her mother.
From that night, Olive was banned from Lily and Vivian’s house, and she became a sawed-off shotgun full of secrets.
Lily took Olive to a nunnery - the same nunnery where she had been while pregnant with Chuck - because she knew it was somewhere secrets could be kept. Olive thrived a bit there, but missed her friends back home, and leapt at the opportunity to hire Emerson to investigate the mysterious death of a fellow nun.
Soon, she returned to Papen City with her new pet pig, Pigby, in tow, and found that Chuck had moved into her apartment. The two girls made an uncertain truce and lived together generally in harmony, although there was always the five-hundred pound elephant - or piemaker, as the case may be - in the room. As the Pie Hole investigative team's resident "itty-bitty," she helped out on cases, but felt they kept secrets from her. Sick of secrets, when a new team of Norwegian detectives showed up in town, Olive showed her true colors - an itty-bitty traitor.
Of course, she was actually investigating on behalf of Ned, Chuck, and Emerson, and proved it when she and Ned hijacked the Norwegians' Mother and drove it off a cliff. As they hung from the cliff, Olive admitted her only regret was that Ned had never looked at her the way he looked at Chuck. Ned informed her that he wouldn't say never.
...goddammit.
Olive is extremely petite, with shoulder-length, lightly curled blonde hair and blue eyes. She is usually seen in her Pie Hole uniform, a green or orange sleeveless minidress that has the added benefit of showing off her ample cleavage. When not working, she still prefers minidresses that show off her assets.
Olive is generally cheerful but prone to flights of fancy and spats of cattiness. She is deeply in love with her boss, Ned the piemaker, which blinds her to other romantic opportunities around her. She believes in the importance of emotional connections and physical touch, so working with Ned, who doesn’t really touch anything, is very frustrating to her. Though she is generally smart, she can have her blonde moments and tends to have difficulty with words (for instance, when she was younger, she thought that “masturbation” meant chewing one’s food. …she doesn’t think that anymore).
