Dr. House encounters a case that makes his face melt!
Well, from the perspective of a hallucinating patient, anyway.
I can't say this was the most absorbing episode. I was intrigued when it was revealed that Crandall was an old friend of House's, but that didn't really go anywhere. It would have been one thing if it wasn't really clear why House would choose Crandall as a friend, but it was pretty clear to me -- Crandall will fall for anything and House likes having someone like that around. If Crandall had dropped some juicy secrets from House's past, I would have liked that, but he didn't. Since I didn't feel much attachment to Crandall, I didn't care all that much if the girl was scamming him or not.
(As an aside, I once met D.B. Sweeney, the actor who played Crandall, in the locker room after an NFL game that I covered. I told him how much I wished his short-lived series Strange Luck had lasted longer.)
The storyline involving Dr. Cuddy's fertility almost rescued the episode. She certainly had something big on her mind at the end -- I thought she was going to ask House for some sperm -- but she chose not to say it. House's hidden stash of morphine also raised an eyebrow, but that's not going to really pay off until the season finale.
I did rather enjoy it when Dr. Cameron asked how you test someone's responses to pain and House says, "Easy ... hurt them!" And Dr. Wilson was spot-on when he asked House if he was following Crandall's directive to not perform a paternity test because "he has pictures of you being nice?" House's answering machine message was terrific as well.
I couldn't help but be reminded of that episode of South Park where Cartman teaches himself to eat through his ass and crap through his mouth.
I enjoyed the scene with Ingrid.
