Is Dr. House dying?
Yes ... but, as he points out, we all are. He is NOT dying of cancer, although he was hoping to convince the doctors in Boston that he was so he could get a pump that administers some kind of pleasure drug installed in him, a scam unwittingly ruined by the people who care about him even though he doesn't deserve them. ("You faked cancer to get high?" Cameron asked incredulously.) This was a weird, very watchable episode of the show.
I'm still grinning over the conceptual greatness of Cameron and Dr. Chase breaking into House's place. On a show where break-ins are a valuable diagnostic tool, it had to happen someday. And Chase put the cherry on top by suggesting that they make with the sweet lovin' in House's bed.
The stunt casting of Dave Matthews was pretty agreeable. Of course, it helped that the role didn't require much more than playing the piano and looking adorably child-like.
Kudos to whoever suggested using the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays" in the scene early on where House is assessing the patient's abilities. The song has been criticized for being a little too bouncy given that its subject is a schoolyard shooting spree -- an inappropriateness that fits House like a glove.
That kissing scene between House and Cameron sure was weird. I was glad when it was revealed that she was trying to sneak a blood sample from him, but it was still weird. House finished the scene with a great line, "You need a sperm sample, come back without the needle!"
Between that scene, Chase hugging House and House hugging (as well as copping a feel from) Dr. Cuddy, the main cast sure did make a lot of contact. It was practically an orgy!
