Dr. Cuddy takes center stage on House.

I really liked this episode. It was very interesting to watch Cuddy morphing into Dr. House. There she was, working the whiteboard, pursuing radical medical theories in the face of everyone telling her how completely wrong she was, being kind of scary in the operating room ... and ultimately coming out on top. If only she could have thrown in some jaw-dropping slurs, she would have been his near-clone!

The episode brought the relationship between Dr. Chase and Dr. Cameron out into the open without too much fanfare, which was nice. I thought it was clever that Dr. Foreman's admonition to Chase to avoid hurting Cameron was twisted from being a wretched cliche into perfectly sensible advice, i.e., that a heartbroken, forlorn Cameron would be even more unbearable than usual. The scene at the end with Cameron wondering why Chase was glowing in a photo (not realizing that he had been looking at a photo of her) worked out fairly well. I think it was probably Chase's amusingly egotistical rationalizations that kept my eyes from rolling back into my head.

I thought the scene with House touching the fetus' hand turned out superbly. It was appropriately restrained. Instead of it being some maudlin, life-changing epiphany, it wound up being more of a gentle reminder of what's at stake when he goes to work every day. He was never sorry that he recommended terminating the pregnancy, because that was the logical course of action.

Of course, the episode gets extra bonus points for starting off with the Replacements' "Bastards of Young" playing in the background. Given the title's spot-on relevance to what the episode was about, I can't imagine it was selected at random.
