Dr. House puts his would-be staffers through their paces.
I thought it was a good episode. All of those new faces really gave the show an appealing freshness.
It seems to me that Dr. Thirteen is going to be the eventual winner of the competition. She's extremely self-confident, hot and a little mysterious. Dr. Conniving Bitch is good for short-term intrigue, not the long haul. I could see her making it to the final two before being hoisted on her own petard. Dr. Plastic Surgeon, while neatly providing an excuse to get this week's patient onto the operating table, is limited by the nature of his specialty. He could try Nip/Tuck. Dr. Mormon is boring. Dr. Kumar is plucky, but I don't really want to see him around. Just for fun, I predict the order of expulsion to be: Dr. Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Mormon, Dr. Kumar, and Dr. Conniving Bitch.
The best part about Dr. Not An Actual Doctor signing on as House's assistant is that I didn't know about it in advance. Not that I'm condemning knowing things in advance. I certainly didn't shy away from learning the identities of the final five candidates before the season started, for instance. (I do kind of wish I had saved the knowledge that Dr. Chase, Dr. Cameron and Dr. Foreman would be making cameos in this episode, but I can only blame my own lack of willpower for that.) In a day and age where it's so easy to be informed in advance of any character making repeat appearances, this one slipped through the cracks, and I'm grateful.
The only one of the unsuccessful candidates who I wouldn't have minded seeing stick around a little longer was Dr. Tattling Guy. With a little seasoning, he could have learned to keep his big yap shut.
House had some good lines. I liked the one about Osama and Delta Force. And "one giant rack for mankind" was awesome.
Dr. Wilson made the most of his limited screen time. He messed with House's head AND slipped in a nifty Schrodinger joke.
It was pretty funny to see Dr. Kumar accidentally setting the patient on fire. And House did a great job of shutting down Dr. Conniving Bitch when she tried to use that information to oust Dr. Kumar. As Dr. Accent Girl found out in the end, taking chances is what House respects.
I was certainly relieved when House revealed that he didn't rat the patient out to her superiors. That seemed unnecessarily cruel.
