We have a new team on House.
Thanks to Internet spoilers, I've known for a while who was going to make the cut. But it could be argued that knowing actually enhanced the ending. Someone who wasn't aware that Dr. Thirteen was destined to make the cut would have had no reason to raise an eyebrow when Dr. House fired her. I, on the other hand, was extremely interested to see what kind of reversal would take place to ensure that she survived.
While I have to applaud House's strategy of saving two male applicants in order to provoke Dr. Cuddy into having him also keep one of the women, I wonder why Cuddy didn't just order him to drop either Dr. Taub or Dr. Kutner. There was nothing stopping her from saying, "Wow, very clever. There are still only three spots." Or she could have just gotten rid of one of the two herself -- probably Kutner and his Defib Paddles of Doom.
Of course, the Defib Paddles of Doom are nothing compared to Dr. Volakis letting the patient nearly blow himself up. That was pretty funny, particularly because projecting competence would be far more important to her than it would be to Kutner.
I like Taub. Beneath that unthreatening exterior is a cagey mind.
I wonder if the lawsuit that was filed by Dr. Wilson's patient will get any follow-up in a future episode. It wouldn't be critical if it didn't.
The fake soap opera was a retro moment. Have we seen one since, oh, Season 1?
The episode gets bonus points for using Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky." What a rocking tune.
