My coworker John told me that his cat was seriously ill--throwing up, lethargic, refusing food, dropping weight. The previously healthy 6-year-old, 15-pound cat had lost a third of her body weight ( Read more... )

More details here.

(Er, sorry, bit jitty. Basically it looks like there have been some ongoing issues with stuff imported from China, which does include at least some Purina stuff, since at least 2007. I don't know how much crackdown people have made on it but checking the current listings for stuff known to have problems is never a bad idea, especially if it's something you've not given a pet before.)

We just switched our cat off of Fancy Feast and to Wellness. She was recently diagnosed as diabetic after a week of lethargy, not eating or drinking and drastic weight loss. The vet was confused about the weight loss and explained that while diabetic he would typically expect to see an increase in weight as opposed to the four pounds she had dropped over the period of two months. As part of her new healthy regimen we switched her to the new food and suddenly she was eating, drinking and gaining weight back.

So yeah. Totally weighing in on this.

Oh no :( Luckily I've never used Purina products, but I'll keep this in mind and let my friends know.

Thanks for the warning!

Ugh, this is so awful. It disgusts me that people think that, just because human's aren't eating it, they can put any old crap in pet food. :(

This sounds exactly like what happened to my cat. He got a supplement of wet food with his evening meal for most of his life. Then last year he stopped eating, lost a ton of weight, etc. Then he would eat ravenously for a bit and go back to acting weird. It lasted for weeks, of us trying all kinds of different foods, from real fresh chicken to other types of cat food, to even baby food. For awhile he would barely touch anything, would only lap broth, and we really thought we were going to lose him ( ... )
