Because I am too lazy to type out all this junk again, I'm just gonna copy and paste the comments from
lozenger8's post. I'm so classy!
me:
I saw a post on tumblr saying that this felt like Henry's swan song, so we could say goodbye, and I'm just like--NO. This is NOT ALLOWED. Psych is not the show that kills characters to torture them!! The closest it's gotten before was Mary's death and the end montage of that episode but even then, Mary was a recurring guest character, not THE MAIN CHARACTER'S FATHER!
They can't do thiiiis D: D:
loz:
They CANNOT do this. There is no sense in it. And it's way, way too much of a bummer. Like you say, that's not Psych's schtick. I mean --- we saw what Shawn was like when he thought Despereaux died. I honestly couldn't handle seeing that for real with his dad. Ow, my heart, Psych.
Henry kissed Shawn on the head and they were going to go have a beer.
:( :( :( :( :(
:(
me:
YES EXACTLY D: D: He was so heartbroken already and that was over a really cool CRIMINAL. Oh my god, like, I know Psych fandom likes to angst everything up, but I don't want to see it in the SHOW! I need Shawn to get to Henry in time and he'll be okay and then Shawn will say lots of borderline innapropriate jokes about Henry not healing fast enough to mask his insane RELIEF that his dad will be okay and and.
SOB.
loz:
And the thing is? I just have the worst feeling that if they did kill Henry off, they wouldn't goof it up like they did with Despereaux, but they'd have like, Berman or Roday write it, so that it genuinely hurt like a mofo. And I do not want that. As much as I love it when Shawn is being a real boy, I don't want to see his pain. Roday is too fucking good at that kind of acting for me to ever recover. I don't think I could ever look at Shawn again without thinking "YOU'RE CRYING ON THE INSIDE. YOU MAY LOOK LIKE YOU'RE ENJOYING THOSE PANCAKES, BUT REALLY THEY'RE MAPLE-SYRUP FLAVOURED TEARS". I'm not even half-joking. I really think I'd be that cut up.
Shawn has to have a Henry he can make totally inappropriate jokes to. It's mandatory.
me:
Oh man, YES. And obviously there would not be Lassiter semi-jokes at the expense of DEAD HENRY the way there was with Despereaux and everyone would just be so freakin sad and somber FOREVER and just. No. That is not my shoooow.
Like how you mentioned in the other comments down there, this show does character development, and the best part of that to ME is that it's so gradual that it all makes sense. So even when we get more dramatic episodes/moments, we know Gus will always think he's a player and will always eat constantly, and we know that Shawn will always be crazy and ridiculous but in a pretty harmless way because he just has FUN with life and etc etc for everyone else, too.
A main character dying...would change all of that way too fast and way too drastically, and just. AAAAHHHH.
loz:
Yes, yes, yes. Characters grow over time: they don't suddenly turn into other people. But I can't see how this wouldn't change Shawn irrevocably. I cannot. The greatest thing about Shawn is how deeply he loves people. And he loves Henry, regardless of the issues they've had. He respects and even still idolises him. He also still needs him.
All of this is also balanced by the fact I really love what Henry, and indeed, Corbin, give the show.
I never expected Psych to be a show that gives me so many FEELINGS, but it often does.
---
so basically yeah, that's where I'm at. Killing a character right after they have cute and happy scenes is not a PSYCH thing, it's.. a Joss Whedon thing. :P And I love Henry and I love Shawn and I don't want him dead, and at the same time I don't want this to ruin the show. MY show. I'm worried on two levels.
(on a side note, I DO appreciate that the Juliet-in-danger stuff was a red herring, because that is overdone on EVERY show ever, not just this one.)
(also, Gus's sweet tooth oh my god. I have never been so tempted to use the "spirit animal" label before now.)
(also also, the official Psych twitter reblogged my lame comment about Woody, ahaahahaha. ha.)
(also also also, can I just say how much I LOVED the little detail of Juliet planning to make brownies? I don't even know why; I just adored it.)
(also also also also, I am sadly still not won over by Shawn/Jules, though they still also don't offend me. so um.. yay? idk. I am just left kinda cold by their scenes, even when they're being cute, and then on the other hand you have my squeaking and flailing like a dork when yet another stranger assumes Shawn and Gus are gay together. and then Shawn just plays along and sob.)
