I hope you come to the next family gathering. As hideously stressful as it is, there is someone who needs you. And I don't mean me (though I do miss you). Angela seems to be struggling with herself. She and her family spent a week in Hawaii and she convinced every kid she met at the hotel that she was a boy. She wore swim trunks and a tank top and kept her hair pulled back. On their Christmas card she and Matthew were both wearing suits. I have no problem with her wanting to dress like a boy, in theory; but I worry that the reason is that she sees being a girl as a sign of weakness. Given the relationship between her parents, it's easy to imagine that she would feel safer in the role of a male (aggressive, dominant, in control) than a female (submissive, fragile, frightened). If she was doing it because she truly identified as a boy, that would be fine; but I think she is hiding behind it.

hmm...not soo keen on family gatherings right now but I am in contact with Aunt Barbara. She and I have been talking about getting together so maybe I could hang out with Angela too. :oD I wonder sometimes if Angela has Congenital Androgen Hyperplasia => more male hormone in the womb than usual which causes females born with this to be more aggressive and prefer male-gender typed toys and activities. It's rare. She might just be a hardcore tomboy or, like you said, prefer the male stance to protect herself.
