These are activity reports I put on the Ballista Babes yahoogroup. I decided to record them here, because they are as much my own history as any.
What a terrific day! The weather was lovely through most of the day. Babes in attendance were Nest, Nadia, Beth, and myself. We were joined by a brand new Babe, much to our suprise and delight. Lady Reddi has joined the ranks of the few, the proud, the bloodthirsty.
Other seige teams present were Graywolf, his lovely and pleasant lady, and Tessa and her lovely and pleasant lord. They brought out Litch and ... I think her name is Dark Princess?
The guns and I actually arrived a bit late, a bit after noon. Seige wasn't supposed to start until 1pm, and they were running late anyway. Ceawlin, Nadia and I got the day pavillion set up close to the seige machines. We brought the Blue and Thirst. It turned out that I had somehow managed to leave one set of bow shims home, so we only set up one gun. I picked Thirst, because we set up the Blue at the last practice.
Harald Orm ran a Safety and Familiarization class, after which Nest, Nadia, Beth, Lady Reddi, and I got brand new shiny yellow cards. So we're all legal gunners now. The new chicks did just great. This was the second time shooting for Nadia and Nest, and the first for Beth and Reddi. I'm so proud I could plotz.
We met Christoff of Loch Leven. He's a really pleasant and moderately hot guy, so let's keep him around. He is the appointed seige engineer for Loch Leven, and he's got one gunner going so far. I would like to extend the invitation for him and whatever gunners he may be developing to join us at practices. I like the idea of developing a relationship with another unit, and I have to tell you, Loch Leven is a unit I admire.
After the class, we waited out some field battles, and then we got to target shoot. That was a lot of fun. A couple of strangers tried out the gun, but it was mostly us.
All in all, I would call it a good and productive event.
Tessa is planning to hold regular Sunday practices at her place in New Hampshire. They will include heavy weapons and ballista. She'll be posting more about it in her own time. I would like to go up and try it sometime.
We missed Jehanne and Solskinn who are languishing in Europe, and Molly and Shaunna had to work. But it was great to have the people who could show up.
Thanks for the great time, ladies. And Fred and Ceawlin.
