In attendance were Nest, Juliana, Nadia, and myself.
We spent about half an hour or so setting up the guns and getting all the parts
on the right guns. We needed another string, so Muffin sent up a flare and had
her jig sent over, where she produced two beautiful new strings.
We started off with a quick target practice to get everybody's aim calibrated.
Next was a spotting exercise. A designated spotter stood off to one side and
directed the gunner to fire at the target. The gunner was not allowed to look at
the target. I think Muffin cheated, but I can't prove it. It went pretty well.
We all need more practice spotting. We began working on a standardized language
for the spotter to use. This would be really handy in battle, as well as
competition shooting. Spotting is actually a pretty important position on the
ballista team.
Finally I dressed up in armor and let them shoot at me. What a terrible idea.
I'll get you for this, Oscar. I have to say, it must suck to get hit with one of
those bolts when you're not expecting it. Nadia hit me two out of three shots,
right out of the gate. Nest and Juliana both landed excellent shots on me.
Mali came out after she got the shop closed. We ran through target practice and
the first drill for her, and then she got to shoot at me. She's experimenting
with shooting stances. What she settled on clearly worked, because she pegged me
hard.
Out of the 18 bolts we had, I think there are two or three that don't need to be
retaped.
