...of posting realllllly ancient spiritual stuff, and because I was made very curious by cailetambraii. I had functioned under the belief years ago that Jesus was born on or around August 17th, which I thought was cool, since that is my little brother's birthday. Discussions with phoenixgoddess made me think Spring, as she considered the much more reliable occurance of ( Read more... )

I also found an explanation last night of the astronomical (literally) events occuring in the years 3-2 B.C., events so incredible and phenomenal that nothing like it will occur again for at least 3,000 years -

Several of which created events that seemed like a single brilliant star visible during the day AND night, made a star seem to stop in the sky and stay where it was for 80 days and nights, and have all the symbols of Kingship and Jews in the astrological interpretations as well.

But I decided not to post it, since it only seemed to fascinate ME, and bore the heck out of anyone else, LOL

It was the first scientific documentation of the Star of Bethlehem I'd ever read, and it was amazing.

Woohoo! Well, if you're interested, this is what it was:

http://sciastro.net/portia/articles/thestar.htm

It also goes into some investigation of the date of Herod's death with reference to the moon turning red with the blood of the slain Jews - which would indicate a total lunar eclipse, and they have a date on that, too!

It makes assumptions about what people would have thought of what they'd see in the skies, but as for what happened in the skies, it's treated as purely what the planets and stars were doing then, which is kind of cool.

I feel my God doesn't need me to attack other beliefs, defend God, nor does God need my proofs. God just is, I'm the one that needs defending and reassuring.
I guess that puts me more in your first camp, but I don't think that describes me either. I see things in this world that do not reflect the divine, The St.Louis arch, strip mines, the NFL and it's "super" bowl.

Good point, I think 'proof' might be a poor choice of words in the former example. But yeah, I think you belong in the former category, at least if we redefine it as people who still look at the world with wonder :)

Another comment to your addition:

I feel that learning more about the world is enlightning - but it doesn't cast a shadow on my beliefs.

I had an anthropology professor who was a former priest. In his class, he asked the question, "Does it really matter HOW God did what he did? I think all that matters is that we give him the credit for it." I agree.

I think that as we grow and learn as a species, we are allowed to learn more about "how the magic trick works".

We just have to remember who the Magician is...
