Skin.

I've come to realize that I have thin skin.  I don't take criticism well, thus anything of the sort can make me grumpy and even cry.  Usually, I am not quick in my replies back to someone, especially when they catch me off guard.  Instead, I tend to just sit in the corner and sulk.

I'd like to think I am tough, but I am realizing I truly am not.  ( Read more... )

i find that puffing up your ego and thinking about how awesome you are helps. but it also depends on who the person is. if it's a stranger i immediately start thinking they are an idiot to aid myself. if it's someone i've known for a long time i will either get really hurt or turn into a crazy hurtful bitch.

A stranger doesn't hurt me. But what about a coworker ... or a boss? Thus, the comment about taking criticism badly comes into play.

I take things very personally.

well it depends on what they're saying. i can't say that a coworker or supervisor has ever said anything negative to me just to be negative. it's usually constructive criticism and you have to recognize it as such. they're not criticizing you as a person, they're just trying to help. it's easier said than done, but i know they're not attacking me.

To me it feels like you just need the right balance of a healthy ego and being a caring person (of others).

Also, you can always implement the tried-and-true method of "your face" retorts, whenever applicable.

(And I think it's spelled T-U-F-F, not "tough")

How would you assess what I wrote? Am I thin skinned to you, too? Honestly.

I don't know what you mean with the healthy balance. YOU need this, meaning ME? Or YOU need this meaning universal you?

I think you're sensitive, yes. That isn't really a bad thing. Saying someone is thin-skinned makes it sound worse.

I meant you in the universal you sense.
