Oh thank you! Of course I don't mind - I've seen your White Boots icon around in comments elsewhere and it's lovely to meet a fellow fan.

I'm very glad that the fic works for you. I'm afraid I've done a lot more skating than writing in the past year, so my word skills might have got a little rusty.

Well, of course, the main thing that has changed is that the compulsory figures are no longer around in competition or in exams - but my coach still makes me do them! In exams they've been replaced by 'moves in the field', which test the same turns and edges but by doing different exercises.

The NISA tests changed name in 2002 and are now just numbered 1-10, so I'm quite grumpy that I'll never get my inter-silver (although I'd need a double salchow, double loop and a flying spin, so I'm a long way off that yet). These days there's a whole set of earlier exams called Skate UK, designed to encourage skaters through the basics and then there are the Star tests leading up to having your first full skating routine with jumps and spins. That's what I'm working on at the moment, and I'm planning on testing the NISA 1 field moves soon afterwards

It's a funny thing, but because I know there hasn't been a British woman world champion since the year the book was published, I could never see that being the future for either of them. But I'd like to think they carried on loving the sport anyway.
